DICOM Standards Committee to Be Headed by ACR Committee Chair

The new co-chair of the Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) Standards Committee is Charles E. Kahn, Jr, MD, who co-chairs the committee of the same name for the American College of Radiology (ACR), the college has announced. The DICOM Standards Committee is an international body of representatives of the imaging and information industries and medical and other professional societies involved in the use of images in health care.

The committee is charged with the ongoing development of DICOM and with the creation of communication standards for diagnostic and therapeutic information in fields that use digital images. The ACR, as a long-term supporter of the DICOM effort, has often provided the committee with members and leaders.
