Treatment Planning Tool

Varian Medical Systems, Palo Alto, Calif, introduces the VariSeed 7.0 treatment planning software for permanent seed implant brachytherapy used in treating prostate cancer. The product gives physicians the ability to use real-time images generated during the implant procedure to deliver precise doses more accurately. Available as an upgrade, the software introduces the ability to superimpose different kinds of diagnostic images, such as MRI and SPECT, with CT and ultrasound images, enabling physicians to adjust implants according to an individual patient's disease characteristics. Ultrasound Imaging Platform

Siemens Medical Solutions, Mountain View, Calif, introduces the Sonoline® G60 S ultrasound imaging platform. This new system features all-digital ultrasound technologies, including MultiBeam Formation, Precision MotionCapture, and SynAps."  The G60 S accommodates deep abdominal imaging, specialty applications, high frequency imaging, and comprehensive cardiology solutions, with an integrated stress echo package and multi-plane transesophageal echo capability. The system's embedded DICOM enables connectivity into departmental or hospital-wide PACS networks. Its four-wheel swivel design with individually locking casters provides mobility. PET Vial Shield Dispensing Station

Vulcan Nuclear, Milwaukee, introduces the Vulcan/Lemer PET Vial Shield Dispensing Station, designed to receive the Delux Tungsten Vial Shield and eliminate the need to hand hold the vial shield while drawing a dose. Portable Ultrasound

Pie Medical, Maastricht, the Netherlands, announces FDA clearance for its handheld ultrasound scanner, the 50S Tringa. The Tringa is a small, light system, weighing 29 ounces and available for use with 3.5/5.0 MHz or 5.0/7.5 MHz dual frequency mechanical probes. Primarily designed as a tool for diagnosing acute abdominal trauma in emergency rooms, in ambulances, or at trauma sites, the system provides the user with B, M, B/B, and B/M-mode imaging, cine memory, and storage of up to 160 images. Digital Light Box

TeraRecon Inc, San Mateo, Calif, introduces its new personal digital light box (PDLB), consisting of multiple ultrathin 15-inch LCD panels, driven by a single PC platform. The product can be configured with 2, 4, or 8 panels, equaling 6 million, 12 million, and 24 million pixels of color resolution, respectively. It offers crisp, bright, and high-resolution display for 2D and 3D CT and MR soft-copy diagnostic review. The PDLB also works as a display option for the company's AquariusNET 3D enterprise server, and can display CT or MR images at 512 x 512 resolution in a 4x3 hanging protocol, with  various other display formats available.
