Study: PET Fuels Nuclear Medicine Market Growth

While Positron Emission Tomography (PET) is thriving in the marketplace, it will negatively impact future sales of conventional gamma cameras, according to a new report from by Global Industry Analysts Inc. of San Jose, Calif.

The gamma scintillation cameras and accessories market is expected to reach $913 million by 2010. However, due to reimbursement issues and competition from other imaging modalities the market research firm anticipates gamma camera sales to drop during that period, down to $435 million.

The United States is by far the largest market for gamma/scintillation cameras and accessories, accounting for about 57% of the global market in this area.

Latin America and Asia-Pacific represent the fastest growing markets over the period 2000-2010, with compound annual growth rates between 3% and 3.5% from 2000 to 2010.
