Kardia Acquires Freeland Systems

Information technology firm Kardia Health Systems, of Rochester, Minn., has announced its acquisition of Freeland Systems, based in Denver, a developer of multimodality medical imaging and reporting software solutions.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

With this acquisition, Kardia will be able to offer customers a complete Web-based clinical, diagnostic and reporting solution for end-to-end management of multiple imaging modalities. “We believe being Web-based is the key to unlocking the future of delivery of healthcare,” said Wayne Schellhammer, Kardia executive vice president, to Imaging Economics.

Kardia’s flagship product, the Kardia E reporting and workflow solution, is designed to streamline the clinical workflow process, including patient scheduling, template-guided entry of medical information and automatic generation of interpretive diagnostic statements, accreditation requirements, and billing codes. The Freeland Systems ACCESSPOINT suite of products will extend workflow management to include the data storage and disaster recovery, retrieval, distribution and presentation of both reports and images. Users can also leverage the modular solutions required for their business, such as data mining, image storage and reporting, Web delivery of diagnostic quality images and integration with existing digital applications and hardware devices

According to Kardia, the company aims to improve the software in the cardiology space by bringing together the collective intelligence of the marketplace.

Kardia Health Systems is the sole licensee of the Mayo Clinic-created Echocardiography Information Management System.
